Tips for traveling with your pets.

Take a minute……save some aggravation!

It’s always a good idea to stop for a minute and think of the little things that might be the difference between a great trip and time wasted down the road. As we all know, pets are just like children, we’re responsible for bringing the basic items that will make the trip a success. So make a list and check it twice. There are things you can do before your trip too. Don’t just consider the basics either. The comfort items are just as important to provide a stress free, fun travel experience.

Always check with your Vet when going on long trips to make sure your pet is caught up on vaccines and has all the medication needed.

Pack enough food and water for the length of your trip. Be sure to bring bowls and refillable containers to serve as well.

For their safety and yours, use a restraint when traveling. For cats a spacious, comfortable carrier is best. Small dogs can be put in carriers as well.

Stop every 2-3 hours to give your pet the chance to stretch, walk and relieve themselves. Bring their favorite balls and toys and take a few minutes to incorporate training, play and running.

Safeguard your pet. Invest the time to chip and register your pet or update your pets’ registration, and make sure your pet wears a collar and tag with your current phone number at all times.

Very important! Do some practice runs. Take your dog or cat on a longer ride than normal and have them sit where they would during the trip. This is a good way to see how they will react.
